Cleopatra's Mirror

A heist to save the world

Project Info

Developer – Joseph Fore

Genre - Stealth

Development Time - 1 month

Game Engine - Unreal Engine 4

Intended Audience - PC gamers who like stealth-based games

Platform – PC

Cleopatra's Mirror is designed around stealth gameplay. The player must avoid detection from security cameras and museum personnel while they attempt to steal a dangerous artifact from its exhibit.

All assets were created by me, with the exception of default Unreal Engine 4 assets such as the 3rd person character model. I used UE4's brush editor to create all of the custom static meshes that you see in the level. Everything was scripted by me using UE4 blueprints. The only work I cannot claim as my own is the audio.

Concept

After a dig in Egypt excavates the fabled hand-mirror of Cleopatra, it is sent to a brand new high-security museum in Cairo for their grand opening Jewels of Egypt exhibit. The archaeologist who discovered the mirror was the world-renowned Jade Weathers, who warned the Prime Minister of Egypt that the mirror is cursed and not fit to be on display to the public. Ignoring Jade’s request to lock the mirror away, the Prime Minister requested that it be made the centerpiece of the exhibit. Jade now has no choice but to break into the museum to swap the mirror with a fake before the exhibit is showcased to the public.

Mechanics

Gameplay is stealth-based where the player is avoiding detection from enemies in the environment. The player has no way to attack or confront enemies, they can only be avoided by staying out of their field of view. Being caught by an enemy will end the game.

  • Interact

    • Control Panels – Player can interact with wall control panels to turn off security cameras in immediate vicinity for a limited amount of time.

    • Pick up – Player can pick up small items like key cards.

  • Cover

    • Large objects in the environment such as pillars, statues and display cases will provide cover for the player so that they can avoid detection by security enemies. These objects should block the field of view from security lights/cameras.

  • Crouch

    • Can crouch behind cover such as statues, display stands, plants, etc.
